Real Madrid have been hit by another injury setback ahead of the new season after confirming that defender Raul Asencio has been ruled out with a muscle injury.
The Spanish giants announced on Friday that the 23-year-old centre-back suffered a rectus femoris muscle injury in his right leg. The injury is expected to keep him out until September.
Asencio picked up the injury during Real Madrid’s 4-1 pre-season victory over Leganes earlier this week. He started the match but was replaced at half-time by Mario Rivas after experiencing discomfort.
In a statement, the club confirmed the diagnosis following medical examinations.
“After the tests carried out today on our player Raúl Asencio by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a muscle injury in the rectus femoris of his right leg,” the club said.
“Awaiting progress.”
Spanish media reports suggest Asencio could miss several weeks, making him doubtful for Real Madrid’s opening matches of the 2026/27 season. Los Blancos begin their La Liga campaign against Espanyol on August 23.
The defender has become an important member of the first team after progressing through the club’s academy. Last season, he made 34 appearances in all competitions and established himself as a regular in the squad.
