Scholes urges Manchester United to sign £75m EPL star

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has urged the club to make a late move for Newcastle United defender Lewis Hall before the transfer window closes.

Scholes believes Manchester United need to strengthen their defence after watching Luke Shaw struggle during their recent 5-2 win over Ipswich Town at Old Trafford.

Despite scoring five goals and securing an impressive victory, United showed serious defensive weaknesses in the first half.

Those problems have left Scholes concerned about Michael Carrick’s team ahead of the new season.

The ex-midfielder believes bringing in another defender could help improve the team’s defensive stability.

Speaking on The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast, Scholes admitted that United were fortunate not to fall further behind before the break.

“I think United would have taken going 1-0 down, the way they played in the first half. It could have been two or three,” Scholes said.

The 5-2 scoreline eventually made the match look comfortable for United, but Scholes believes the result also highlighted the contrasting nature of Carrick’s side.

The Red Devils were vulnerable at the back before producing a much stronger attacking display after the break.

“What we saw yesterday, I think that sums what you’re going to get from United,” he added.

“They could have been two or three down but also, you look at the second half, and they were devastating.”

Scholes has now called for United to revisit their interest in Hall, who can operate at left-back and provide another option in defence.

The Newcastle defender could offer greater competition for places while also giving Carrick more flexibility with his defensive selections.

With the transfer deadline approaching, Manchester United must decide whether to act on Scholes’ recommendation.
