Borussia Dortmund have made a formal approach to sign Arsenal star Ethan Nwaneri before the summer transfer window closes.
According to The Athletic, the Bundesliga club want to bring the 19-year-old to Germany on a season-long loan deal.
Dortmund are working quickly to strengthen their squad before Tuesday’s transfer deadline. Sporting director Sebastian Kehl and his recruitment team have identified Nwaneri as one of their main targets.
The England youth international has yet to make a competitive appearance for Arsenal during the 2026/27 campaign. That has opened the door for Dortmund to explore a temporary move.
The German club are searching for attacking reinforcements after suffering a major injury setback. Summer signing Giannis Konstantelias recently suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury and is expected to spend several months on the sidelines.
Konstantelias joined Dortmund from PAOK in a €26 million transfer during the summer. His injury has left the Bundesliga side looking for another creative option before the transfer window closes.
Dortmund have also been linked with other attacking players, including a possible move for Marcel Regula from Zaglebie Lubin.
However, Nwaneri is viewed as a particularly attractive option because of his technical ability and potential.
The Arsenal academy graduate enjoyed a strong 2024/25 season and showed why he is regarded as one of England’s brightest young talents.
However, competition for places at Arsenal has increased, and Nwaneri has found himself further down Mikel Arteta’s pecking order.
A move to Dortmund could give the teenager regular first-team football and valuable experience at a high level.
For Arsenal, a loan could also allow Nwaneri to continue his development without leaving the club permanently.
With the transfer deadline approaching, Dortmund will now hope to convince Arsenal to approve the deal.
