Real Madrid failed to take advantage of playing the first leg of their Copa del Rey semifinal clash with Barcelona at the Santiago Bernabeu as they lost 1-0 to their bitter rivals. The only goal of the game was scored by an own goal from Brazil defender Eder Militao in the first half of the game.
After the game, Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti reveals why Los Blancos lost to the Catalans despite being the better side in the game.
“We played a good game. We pressed them a lot and we wanted it. It was difficult to find space because their defense was very solid.
“We played the game we wanted. Now we are confident ahead of the 2nd leg. Differences with Liverpool? Atletico and Barcelona defended very well. We have to repeat this at the Camp Nou. We started well and finished well. They scored after a mistake of ours. A bad pass.
“This game won’t affect us in La Liga. We are satisfied of our game. Not the result obviously. We need a remontada at the Camp Nou. We played one of our best games in terms of pressing and defense.
“Barcelona won’t defend like tonight at the Camp Nou. We have to repeat what we did, the attitude. We are sad because we lost but we are confident ahead of the 2nd leg. They scored because of that bad pass. We made a mistake and they took advantage of it.”
