Lionel Messi, captain of Inter Miami CF and the Argentine national team, has reportedly acquired Spanish side UE Cornellà .
The Argentine superstar is said to have finalized an agreement granting him complete ownership of the third-tier outfit.
As a result, the eight-time Ballon d’Or recipient now assumes full control of the club.
Currently, Cornellà occupy third place in their Tercera División group, trailing leaders CE Manresa by five points.
Having already secured a playoff berth, the team is pushing for promotion to the next level.
Messi’s move mirrors that of his long-time rival, Cristiano Ronaldo, who earlier this year invested in Spanish club UD AlmerÃa.
