World football governing body FIFA has granted approval for former Arsenal goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo to represent Nigeria’s Super Eagles ahead of England.
Born in England to Nigerian parents, Okonkwo qualifies to play for either nation, but the Wrexham star is not poised to play for the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
The ex-Arsenal goalkeeper had earlier featured for England at youth level. The 24-year-old’s switch in international allegiance was officially reflected on FIFA’s player eligibility system on Tuesday.
Okonkwo is now in line to be considered for the Super Eagles’ upcoming friendly matches against India and Jamaica in May.
Nigeria will also face Poland and Portugal in additional friendly fixtures scheduled for June.
