Swansea boosted their survival hopes with Alfie Mawson hitting the only goal to give them a 1-0 victory over high-flying Liverpool.

Mawson reacted first to a weak header from Virgil van Dijk, who made his Premier League debut for Liverpool, to give Swansea the lead before half-time.

Liverpool went into the game buoyed by their victory over Manchester City and kept going to the end looking for an equaliser.

Roberto Firmino struck a post in injury time and Mawson also blocked on the line an effort by Adam Lallana.
