David Silva retires

Manchester City's Spain midfielder David Silva has announced his retirement from international football. The midfielder enjoyed a trophy laden international football with Spain by winning two European Championship titles and a World Cup in 2010.

"I have had several weeks of reflection and analysis to make the decision that I'm finishing my time with the Spanish national team," Silva wrote.

"Without a doubt, this is one of the most difficult decisions of my career. "It is one that I'm communicating with great gratitude and humility."

"I'm happy with everything I've achieved and I've lived a dream with a team that will always be remembered," he said.

"I leave full of emotion and thankful for all of the moments and people that come to mind, like the figure of Luis Aragones, a master who we will never forget."

The 32- year old played 125 games for his country and scored 35 goals since making his debut in 2006, making him Spain's fourth highest goalscorer all time.
