Manchester City’s Brazilian sensation Gabriel Jesus has spoken today of the centre-forward situation at the Etihad, with both he and Sergio Aguero currently vying for one spot at the focal point of Pep Guardiola’s attack. Despite both scoring during the Citizen’s disappointing 2-2 draw with relegation-battling Middlesbrough at the weekend, Guardiola revealed in his post-game comments that it is unlikely that the duo will start together moving forward. Therefore, a straight battle between the pair will ensue for starting honors, with former Palmeiras man Jesus insisting that the individual on the best form will play.

According to Goal.com, the Brazilian international said: ‘There isn’t a starter or a reserve. The one in a better moment will play. It’s good. It’s the coach’s decision. We will fight for our place somehow.’ Jesus went on to discuss his own form, with the 20-year-old having come in for a large amount of criticism following his weekend display at the Riverside.

However, he assured that his recent lengthy spell on the sidelines played a large part in this, as he looks to regain the form which saw him lauded as one of the world’s brightest young talents following his arrival at the Etihad last summer. He further said: ‘I’m a little tired, that’s normal. I am sad that I didn’t play what I know, but with almost three months out, it’s normal. Let’s work hard this week to be better on the next game.’ ‘I’ve never been out for so much time, but I’m happy to be back, doing what I love. Now I have to train and play, train and play to try to secure a place in the Champions League.’
