There are 10 matchdays remaining in LaLiga Santander, the final stretch of the season, and this is where many sides have their future determined, whether that is reaching the Champions League or Europa League, or even saving themselves from relegation to LaLiga 1|2|3. The numbers show that winning all 10 of these games is almost impossible, though there is one exception: Real Madrid with Zinedine Zidane at the helm.
In the 2015/16 campaign, Zidane was able to lead his side to a remarkable 10 victories from 10, the only team to have ever done so in LaLiga Santander. A statistics that shows why Barcelona needs to be consistent in their last 10 games with Zidane ready to repeat same feat this season.
The Frenchman has returned to Los Blancos after resigning last summer and while winning the league would be little less than a miracle, with Madrid 12 points behind leaders Barcelona, he has restored hope to a fanbase that has become disillusioned this season, despite having won the last three Champions Leagues.
There are two sides who have come close to replicating the perfect finish that Zidane and Madrid attained in 2015/2016: Barcelona and Athletic Club. The Blaugrana have closed out the season with nine wins and a draw on two occasions, in 1959/60 and 2009/10, whilst Athletic almost did so with the same record 89 years ago, in 1929/30.
Huesca, Rayo Vallecano and Celta Vigo, the current bottom three in LaLiga Santander, are banking on the final 10 matchdays to salvage their seasons. The best streak that Celta have had to finish a campaign has been with seven wins and three losses, a record attained in 1942/43 and 1947/48, and they would most certainly sign for that if given the opportunity this year.
Rayo, with Paco Jemez back in charge, can also hold onto their memories from the 2001/02 season. In that LaLiga Santander campaign, Los Franjirrojos were saved after winning six and drawing three of their final 10 matches. For Huesca, this is their debut season in the Spanish top flight and therefore there is no precedent for them to look back on.
