Ronaldo sets new Serie A record as a Juventus player

2 months ago  Raphael   Sport News

Former Real Madrid Talisman, Cristiano Ronaldo was once again the hero for Juventus during their 2-1 win over Lazio. Having serious struggled at the Stadio Olimpico and fallen behind to an Emre Can own-goal, the Old Lady had to dig deep to ensure they maintained their unbeaten run in Serie A. Max Allergi would later lament his side's slow start to the game, telling the club's official website: “We misplaced a lot of passes but it’s my fault.
"Until the 60th minute, we lost possession too much, let them counter and Ciro Immobile nearly made it 2-0. It’s never been easy to beat Lazio here in Rome."
The turning point eventually came in the 74th minute with Joao Cancelo finding the bottom corner and setting up a nervy end to the game. And it was the same Juventus player who then won a penalty in the dying embers, giving Ronaldo the opportunity to grab all three points. Despite having missed from the penalty spot just the week before, he showed nerves of steel to sell Thomas Strakosha the wrong way and bag his 17th goal of the season. When it comes to take pressuring penalties, it doesn't get much better than Ronaldo and Juventus know that better than most after last year's Champions League quarter-final.
CRISTIANO RONALDO'S LATEST RECORD
But it's the Old Lady who are benefitting in the 2018-19 campaign and they are dominating more than ever with the 33-year-old leading their line. In just a matter of months, Ronaldo has broken so many records since his Real Madrid exit and he achieved yet another historic feat with his Lazio strike. It seems that Ronaldo has been particularly prolific away from home and it saw him accomplish a first in the modern era of Serie A.
Juventus tweeted after the game: "@Cristiano scored in his eighth consecutive @SerieA away match vs Lazio. The first player to achieve this in the three-point era (1994/95)."
That's right, ever since Italian football rewarded a victory with more points back in 1994, nobody has been able to go eight away matches with a goal in each. Ronaldo's remarkable run on the road dates all the way back to September 23, when he found the back of the net in a 2-0 victory at Frosinone. Udinese, Empoli, AC Milan, Fiorentina, Torino and Atalanta also conceded goals from the Portuguese during his incredible streak. A trip to Sassuolo in the early weeks of February will give Ronaldo the opportunity to extend his record and you certainly wouldn't put it past him on current form. Records simply aren't safe when Ronaldo is on the pitch.
