The best player in the world debate often rears its ugly head from time to time, and former Barcelona striker, Romario, is the latest to give his two penneth.
Cristiano Ronaldo's name wasn't even mentioned, with the Brazilian preferring to compare himself against the best Argentinian players to have worn the Blaugrana.
"Messi has to win a World Cup, so I think that Maradona is better than him," he told FOX Sports Brasil.
"Within the area I was much better than Messi and Maradona anyway."That's what I think and I say it with a lot of humility."
After his match-winning antics at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, Messi seems to have put himself in pole position, for now, to win another Ballon d'Or, not that Romario would agree.
"Today, for how he plays with his club and the national team, I would give the prize of the best in the world to Neymar," he concluded.
