Oblak on brink of achieving his goal

1 day from now  Raphael   Sport News

Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak is set to repeat as winner of the Zamora triumph with almost complete certainty, with just one round of LaLiga left to play.

Last season, the Slovenian was the winner of the award but injury put his chances of repeating the feat in jeopardy.

However, he has entered the rankings for the first time after completing a minimum of 60 minutes in his 28th game of the season.

He leads the list with a conceded goals ratio of 0.71 per game, followed by Marc-Andre ter Stegen with 0.89 and Espanyol's Diego Lopez on 1.12.

It is enough for Oblak to retain his award, unless he suffers a monumental collapse in the final game of the campaign.

In order to lose his grip on the trophy, he would have to concede five goals against Athletic, while ter Stegen will need to keep a clean sheet at home against Eibar.

If that scenario does somehow play out, they would be tied at the top with a ratio of 0.86, a highly unlikely possibility given that Atletico last conceded more than four goals in a LaLiga game in the 2011/12 season against Barcelona.

There have only ever been two ties between goalkeepers in the fight for the Zamora twice in the trophy's history, between Rodri and Angel Abelardo in 1970/71 and Francisco Liano and Santiago Canizares in 1992/93.
