Mexican championship weekend games suspended over referee strike

Mexico's soccer federation said on Friday the matches scheduled for the country's top flight soccer championship this weekend have been suspended due to strike action by referees protesting a disciplinary decision by the body.In a statement with the Mexican soccer league, Liga MX, the federation known as Femexfut said the decision had been made because of the "unilateral" strike announced earlier on Friday by the referees, and that the games would be rescheduled. The Mexican referees' association said it would strike in protest at what it saw as excessively lenient punishments handed out to America defender Pablo Aguilar and Toluca forward Enrique Triverio after the two clashed with referees in midweek games.Femexfut gave Aguilar a ten match ban, while Triverio was suspended for eight, but the referees said it was not enough.
