Mariano to stay and fight for Real Madrid place

8 months from now  Raphael   Sport News

Real Madrid attacker Mariano Diaz is a man who has a lot of faith in his own ability, which is why he is backing himself to succeed at the club.
It was that confidence in himself that resulted in him renewing with the club last year until 2020 and having now earned a first team squad berth, he is determined to stay until the end of this season at least and prove to Zinedine Zidane that he can have an impact.
The youth product, who is of Dominican origin, wants to put pressure on the Real Madrid coach to pick him during the season run-in, particular during Copa del Rey fixtures.
Nobody is more aware than the player himself that he does have real competition for his position, particularly following the arrival in the summer of Alvaro Morata from Juventus, while Karim Benzema is an untouchable starter.
At the same time though, despite making just five total appearances this season, he has impressed when called upon, having managed to score five times, including his first Real hat-trick in the Copa against Cultural Leonesa.
His quality in front of goal has never been in doubt, given that he is a man who scored 27 times in his final year with Real Madrid Castilla and who demonstrated it in LaLiga this year with a vital goal against Deportivo that turned the tide in his side's favour.
It is no surprise then that a man with a record of a goal every 31 minutes would attract a great deal of interest from suitors around Spain.
Espanyol, Valencia, Sporting Gijon, Sevilla and Leganes have all expressed an interest in the Barcelona-born forward as have clubs around the continent.
However, Mariano is firm in his belief that he can make a dent in the Real first team and is keen to convince Zidane of the same thing.
