Real Madrid midfielder, James Rodriguez have been heavily linked with a move to Serie A giants SSC Napoli, but Diego Maradona Junior, the son of the Argentinian legend, has revealed that he happy the deal but sends strong warning to him ahead of the proposed move.
The 2014 World Cup golden boot winner was surplus to requirements at Real Madrid and is due to make the switch to Italy for the 2019/20 season.
"I always comment telling [James] to go to Napoli on his photos," Maradona Jr told MARCA. "I put pressure on him and recently he liked one of my comments.
"It's a dream that James is coming to Napoli. A footballer of this quality, with his left foot, can make the team better. "The city will welcome him with open arms and I'm sure that he'll be able to perform at his best."
Talks are continuing between Real Madrid and Napoli, with the Serie A club wanting to initially take Rodriguez on loan: "From what I know, everything is very advanced," Maradona Jr said. "All that's left to sort out is the formula of the operation. Everything else is done."
Maradona Senior spent several successful years at Napoli during the 1980s and 1990s, giving him iconic status in Naples, but his son has warned James off his father's iconic No.10 shirt, which was retired by the club when he left.
"Don't touch the No.10 [shirt]. It's private property of the family," Maradona Jr said. "It's my father's. "There were rumours that they'd give it to [Gonzalo] Higuain when he arrived, then to [Lorenzo] Insigne, but it has to be like in the NBA. "If you retire a shirt number, you can't use it again."
