Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane says Cape Town City are favourites for PSL honours

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane says Cape Town City have replaced Bidvest Wits as favourites to win the league. City beat Kaizer Chiefs 3-2 last night as the Students lost 1-0 at home to SuperSport United. The Citizens have 49 points from 25 matches - two points more than second-placed Sundowns, and four ahead of Wits and Chiefs. And while Downs and the Clever Boys have two games in hand on their rivals, Mosimane insists the log leaders are in prime position to add to their Telkom Knockout triumph in their first year of existence.

“The title is in Cape Town City's hands at the moment,” says Mosimane, who hailed his side's experience after they defeated lowly Ajax Cape Town 2-0 in Tshwane yesterday. “Today [Tuesday] in the morning it was in Bidvest Wits' hands but now that has exchanged hands. It is [now] in Cape Town City's hands. “No matter what you say, they have the points. When you have points you remain on top of the log.”

Mosimane points out Eric Tinkler's men can focus all their efforts on the title race, unlike the defending Absa Premiership and African champions. “I told you also they are a well rested team. When is that team playing? That team doesn't play football. They are very fresh.”
