Lionel Messi scored twice as Barcelona got back to winning ways in La Liga with a 5-1 rout of Leganes. The reigning champions suffered a shock 2-1 home defeat against Alaves last weekend, before inflicting a 7-0 demolition on Celtic in the Champions League on Tuesday. Luis Enrique's men have now scored 12 goals in the space of five days. Five of those goals have come from Messi who scored a hat-trick against Celtic and opened the scoring against Leganes before adding a second-half penalty.
Luis Suarez and Neymar also got in on the goalscoring act while Rafinha added the fifth. Gabriel scored a consolation goal late on for hosts Leganes. Antoine Griezmann scored twice as Atletico Madrid claimed a 5-0 win over Sporting Gijon. A day after manager Diego Simeone reduced the length of his contract by two seasons, Atletico produced a dominant performance at the Vicente Calderon stadium as Kevin Gameiro scored between two first-half goals from strike partner Griezmann.
Fernando Torres wrapped up the win with a pair of goals late in the second half as Atletico secured their second successive league win.
