Orlando Pirates coach Kjell Jonevret has admitted his desire to have a permanent number-one goalkeeper and maintains he will not adopt a rotation policy, despite having three capable first-choice shotstoppers. Siyabonga Mpontshane – the fourth different 'keeper to be used between the posts this season – became the latest to blunder on Tuesday night when he made a mess of a Victor Letsoalo effort. What was meant to be a routine save then became a goal conceded, leaving the 31-year-old standing with Felipe Ovono, Brighton Mhlongo and Jackson Mabokgwane in the queue of keepers to have erred The Bucs this term. Recent signing Emmanuel Daniel is the only one yet to get his chance in goal. “We have four keepers and I think... I am not a keeper specialist, but I think they are on a pretty similar level,” said Jonevret.

“Sometimes it is good to have four keepers because they compare of course, and I know they work good together, but of course it would be good sometimes to have a clear number one and then have others backing him up and trying to learn. "We are in a situation here with four keepers pretty much on the same level, so I don’t know if it is good but we have to see in winter [off-season] if we are going to do something about that. But right now that is the truth. “We don’t have a national [team] keeper but I think all of them are absolutely okay, but if you say Siya [Mpontshane] should have saved this one [goal conceded against Baroka, maybe he should but he has saved us for the last few games.

"He has been absolutely good for us in the last three to four games,” noted the Swede while adding that he will not be rotating. “I haven’t rotated so much. It was Brighton [Mhlongo] in the first four to five games and then it has been Siya since then. Brighton is not ready to play right now, but without Siya today [against Baroka] it would have been two to three goals. "He saved us a few times and of course there was absolutely a chance for him to take that one [save] but, I mean, you have to shoot to score goals. I am not going to rotate the keepers too much, I think right now Siya is the best keeper that we have, but we have to wait and see in the next game. "Right now he will train a lot and talk a lot with the keeper coach, of course, who is working with him every day. Right now Siya is the best one, so I suppose he is also going to be there [against Chippa United] on Saturday too,” stated Jonevret.
