Sevilla leave Juventus with credible point
A spirited and well organised Sevilla side did enough to keep Juventus at bay and come away from Torino with a 0-0 draw in their opening Champions League Group H match.
Despite not winning any of their last six away matches - drawn two, lost four - in the competition, the LaLiga side limited the chances created by the Bianconeri who had scored in the last 21 matches at the Juventus Stadium.
A late assault on the Sevilla goal, complete with penalty claim and brilliant last minute save from Sergio Rico, ultimately lead to nothing, meaning Massimiliano Allegri's men had to settle for a point.
Things started well for the Italian champions who created plenty of chances and, but for the poor finishing of Sami Khedira, would have been ahead within the opening 15 minutes.
The German, who made his 50th Champions League appearance, was first played in on goal by Paulo Dybala, but side-footed wide from the edge of the penalty area. Then, the pair combined again but Khedira's shot was straight at the onrushing goalkeeper Rico.
Sevilla looked to sit back and hit the Bianconeri on the break, with frontman Franco Vazquez increasingly isolated for the Rojiblancos, who only had one shot on target throughout the entire match.
On the half hour, a desperate clearance from Rico fell to Dybala after but his ball for Gonzalo Higuain, his fellow Argentine could only hit the crossbar.
Chances were few and far between for both as the game wore on, though Juve were getting some joy down the right thanks to former Sevilla man Dani Alves.
Higuain had a glorious chance towards the end after a low cross by Miralem Pjanic, but last season's Serie A topscorer was denied by a brilliant Nicolas Pareja tackle.
As the game drew to a close, Juventus pressed for a winner and Marko Pjaca looked to have been bundled over in the penalty area, but referee Deniz Aytekin waved play on.
Then in the final moments of the game a deep cross from Dani Alves found Alex Sandro, and just as it looked like his header would find the bottom corner, Rico's outstretched arm flicked the ball away.
