Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt downplayed the weight of his side's victory over Mamelodi Sundowns, and remains cagey over their title chances as the climax approaches. Wits managed to narrowly edge the Brazilians 1-0 in a pulsating top-of-the-table clash at the Bidvest Stadium on Monday evening, with the crucial three points putting them in the driver's seat after 25 games. Hunt rejected suggestions that the tie was a potential six-pointer against their main title rivals, who now sit one point behind with both teams now having five games remaining. "It's not a six-pointer; it's just the three points. Another five games to go so it's a long way still," Hunt told reporters.

With their next three games continuing on a tight schedule of two-day intervals, the experienced tactician feels Orlando Pirates have a slight advantage coming into their next clash as he also rues more injuries and suspensions. "We've got a hell of a programme; we've got to play on Thursday again. Pirates didn't play and we've got to play, and then we've got to play on Sunday again," he added. "It's going to be a tough, tough run-in. We're losing players – as you can see – by one, two, three every game so we'll have to regroup and start [preparations] again."

Having celebrated the victory with smiles and high-fives, Hunt admitted the result was important and felt his side made up for their unjust defeat in the reverse fixture played at Loftus Versfeld back in February. "It's just a step forward, not a step backwards. I thought at Loftus it was a step backward for us because I didn't think... We were better at Loftus and we lost," he exclaimed. "So we were good [to grind out the three points at home], playing against the African champions." The Clever Boys' remaining outings include Pirates, Maritzburg United, Free State Stars, Polokwane City and Kaizer Chiefs, with the three-time championship winning coach insisting they have it tougher than their rivals in the final stretch. "We've got the hardest run-in, there's no doubt about it. Out of Cape Town City and Sundowns we've got the hardest run-in. I can't see any of them losing another game," he concluded.
