Super Eagles midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi was effective for his club side Leicester City in their 1-1 draw against Chelsea at the Stamford Bridge on Sunday as he scored the goal that earned the Foxes a deserved draw against the Blues
. The 22-year-old midfielder earned praise from Ballon d'or winner, Michael Owen, Premier League legend Ian Wright and his teammate James Maddison for his performance against Frank Lampard's side.
The Nigeria international was to blame for Chelsea's goal scored by the Blues youngster Mason Mount when he mistook his pass and slipped allowing the 20-year-old to dispatch the ball past the helpless Kasper Schmeichel. However, the Super Eagles midfielder grabbed the Foxes' equaliser with a resounding header from Maddison's corner kick.
Former Real Madrid, Newcastle United, Liverpool, and Manchester United striker Owen was happy that Ndidi could make amends for his error and describe his header as being perfect.
"I feel for him (Ndidi). If I missed a sitter and my team plays a goalless draw that is how I will feel (about Ndidi ruing his error leading to Chelsea's goal). I mean no question, it stays at the back of your mind but his header was just perfect," said Owen.
Former Arsenal star striker Ian Wright called the Ndidi headed goal as " a majestic ball". Ndidi's teammate who delivered the corner that was turned in by the Nigerian, Maddison praised the Super Eagles midfielder when speaking to Sky Sports after the game.
"It shows the character of Ndidi (to put in such performance after his error). He put that quickly behind him and put in a good display. We lost Harry Maguire and we needed a real big threat from set pieces because he (Maguire) was a large part of what we worked on last year and if you look around we actually haven't got that much presence in the team," Maddison who had a good game against the Blues noted.
" Look at how high Wilfred jumped. To leap above Zouma was not an easy task." Maddison said of the Nigerian midfielder.
After the game, Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers surprisingly took the blame for the error leading to Chelsea's goal as a consequence of the game plan he adapted at the beginning of the game.
