2 months ago  Raphael   Sport News

According to the English media outlet, Evening Standard, Former Manchester City and Barcelona midfielder Denis Suarez is set to join Arsenal on loan for the remainder of the season. The report suggests that the Catalan club has agreed on a loan fee of €2.5 million with the Gunners. The Spanish midfielder has a contract until 2020 with the Spanish giants. According to the report, the Spaniard will sign a new deal with La Blaugrana, followed by the official announcement of his London move.
The 25-year-old has been a top priority for the Arsenal boss. Transfer talks between the two clubs broke down as the Catalans preferred a permanent transfer, and the Gunners, due to financial issues, insisted on a loan move. LaLiga rivals, Real Betis and his former club Sevilla were willing to pay in the region of €15-20 million to secure the services of the Spaniard. However, the central-midfielder preferred a move to Arsenal in order to reunite with his former boss, Unai Emery. The latter is known to be a great admirer of the Spanish playmaker since they worked together at Sevilla.
Denis Suarez had previously featured for Manchester City before making a move to the Catalan club. With the increasing depth in Ernesto Valverde's midfield, the 25-year-old has found himself down the pecking order at the Camp Nou. This season, the Spaniard has made only 2 LaLiga appearances, and is certainly out of favour under the Spanish tactician.
Barcelona boss, Ernesto Valverde, has confirmed that Denis Suarez is close to joining Arsenal.
“Denis is about to go to Arsenal, there is not much left to make it official. “We hope he does well. He has always acted with dedication and we are happy with him,” Valverde said.
Suarez has renewed his contract with the club until 2021 and will now be allowed to sign for Arsenal on loan this January, Marca reports. There will be an option to make the deal permanent in the summer for €25m. The Gunners have been exploring the possibility of signing the 25-year-old on loan during the January window, as they are unable to spend money on big transfer fees. Arsenal offered a €2million (£1.7m) loan fee, but could not agree on the inclusion of a clause, which would require them to permanently sign the midfielder at the end of the season.
Barca looked to get around Arsenal’s refusal to agree on a compulsory right to buy clause by allowing Suarez to leave on loan, but on the condition that he signed a new contract. During his tenure with the LaLiga giants, the playmaker has scored 8 goals and provided 11 assists. The former Sevilla man has failed to become the top choice for the Catalans, and insisted on a move to Arsenal where he will try to reignite his career with his former boss at the helm.
