Chippa United set to sack coach Dan Malesela, despite Nedbank Cup semi-final run

Chippa United coach Dan Malesela looks set to be on his way out of the club after being asked to excuse himself from club activities. Malesela took charge of the Chilli Boys last season following the departure of Roger Skhakhane and, despite guiding them to this year’s Nedbank Cup semi-finals, the team are facing the very real threat of relegation. According to a reliable source close to Chippa United, the club is seeking the possibility of appointing a new coach before the end of the season. Malesela has since been put on the backburner and will miss the side's league clash away to Orlando Pirates on Saturday as a result. “The management is not happy with the results and obviously when the club is not doing well the coach is always the victim,” the source tells KickOff.com.

“The coach has been asked to excuse himself from the club activities and is set to miss the game against Pirates this weekend”, he added. Chippa are looking to make club history by winning their first ever PSL cup but face a tough ask in the Nedbank Cup as they face defending champions SuperSport United in the semi-finals. However, arguably more pressing is the matter of their league standings, where they sit just two points above the relegation zone with five matches remaining this season, including against fellow strugglers Ajax Cape Town and second-last Highlands Park.
