Bayern still worried about irreplaceable Lewandowski

4 weeks ago  Raphael   Sport News

With the Champions League quarter-final only a few days away, Bayern Munich still don't know whether Robert Lewandowski will be back in time for the season defining return leg.
Those that have followed the Bavarian giants closely know that he is amongst the most celebrated No.9s in modern football at the moment, and however much attention his absence will get, it can't be overstated.
"I'm doing well," he said on Sunday. "I am happy to have been able to train once again and everything is going fine."
"He is irreplaceable," added Lothar Matthaus.
Bayern Munich were held to a 0-0 draw on the weekend, with Thomas Muller and the other attacking players failing to take their chances in what will surely be read as a bad omen for Tuesday night.
"We are strong with Lewandowski and we are strong without him," coach Carlo Ancelotti said to try to change the focus on whether he'll play in the build-up.
Since joining from Borussia Dortmund in 2014, the striker has only missed eight matches out of 148, making this spell away with a shoulder issue all the more frustrating.
He has netted 22 times in 32 Champions League games for Bayern.
Quite memorably, he found the back of the net four times against Los Blancos to lift his team to the Champions League final.
Nonetheless, he has been back in training and could feature if coach Carlo Ancelotti deems it not too great a risk.
